- This course will introduce the students to the dramatic arts. Students will develop their creativity, ability to communicate, appreciation of the arts, critical-thinking skills and selfconfidence. The course will culminate in a scene study production, which will demonstrate each student’s artistic skill development in this three discipline.
Role-playing will be the key component of the course. Students will live through the experiences of others, learn to clarify their own point of view and develop their ability to think carefully. Students will create presentations in which they communicate their interpretation of situations and the motives of various characters. Students will engage in creating and critiquing works of drama and learn about ways in which the arts are interconnected.
Students will work both in a co-operative learning framework and on an individual basis. Information Technology will be utilized as a resource tool, as a means of expressing responses to music and as a tool for composition. Assessment/evaluation, based primarily on a four-level achievement rubric, will include input from the instructor, student peers and self-assessing portfolios.
- The aim of this course is “to develop basic communication skills in French and an understanding of the nature of the language, as well as an appreciation of the French culture in Canada and other parts of the world.” The course is enhanced by computer, audio, video and Internet components.
The grade seven Health and Physical Education course is divided into thirteen uninterrupted blocks of activity. Three of these units are health units that are dispersed evenly throughout the year, one per term. The division of units encompasses the strands of Healthy Living, Fundamental Motor Skills and Active Participation as outlined in the Ministry document, Ontario Curriculum: Grades 1-8 (p. 3).
- This course has two components. Through an investigation of the history of New France, Upper Canada and the Rebellions of 1837 in Upper and Lower Canada, the students will gain an appreciation and awareness of the rich history of our country and an understanding of its diversity. The second component is a study of the earth’s geography and a study of the various patterns found across the surface of the earth. This component includes physical characteristics, cultural features and economic conditions of the world. The course is intended to answer questions on how people live, and where and why people live where they do.
Grade 7 (Open) 0.5 Credits
The expectations of this Grade 9 Business credit will be integrated into the various subject areas in Grades 7 and 8. Students starting Grade 7 in September 2007, will earn 0.5 credits at the end of the year. In Grade 8, they will earn another 0.5 credits. This reach-ahead credit will then be applied to their high school transcript when they begin their high school program in September 2009.
This course introduces students to information and communication technology in a business environment and builds a foundation of digital literacy skills necessary for success in a technologically driven society. Students will develop word processing, spreadsheet, database, desktop publishing, presentation software and website design skills. Throughout the course, there is an emphasis on digital literacy, effective electronic research and communication skills and current issues related to the impact of information and communication technology.

Students will read a selection of literary genres: short stories, plays, novels, biographies and poetry. Works include Shakespeare’s Twelfth Night, Washington Irving’s The Legend of Sleepy Hollow and Maya Angelou’s Graduation. Writing will be in the form of responses to the literature, both traditional and e-mail letter writing and creative writing modes. Grammar and vocabulary lessons will improve the style and the structure of students’ writing. Public speaking, acting and directing will provide the students with opportunities for oral expression.- As outlined in the Ontario Curriculum, the Grade 7 mathematics expectations are organized into five strands: Number Sense and Numeration, Measurement, Geometry and Spatial Sense, Patterning and Algebra and Data Management and Probability.
The Grade 7 music course provides opportunities for students to develop their fundamental musical skills and knowledge, to increase their appreciation of music, to develop their critical thinking skills, and to participate in creative processes.Student explorations in music will include those developed in historical, cross-cultural and cross-curricular perspectives.
Strategies will address different learning styles.Student learning will be guided through both independent and interactive activities.The course material is organized in units reflecting various aspects of a balanced music programme such as: knowledge of elements, technical skills, creative skills and communication in response to music.
The course material will be divided into the following five topics (strands): Interactions in the Environment (Understanding Life Systems), Heat in the Environment (Understanding Earth and Space Systems), Pure Substances and Mixtures (Understanding Matter and Energy), Form and Function (Understanding Structures and Mechanisms).

The grade seven course allows students to view, understand and create artwork. The focus of the course is around the elements and principles of design. The goal is to develop an appreciation of art and an understanding of how art affects our lives. Traditional and non-traditional studio assignments will be constructed and students will have the opportunity to experiment with a wide variety of media and techniques.
